A love letter to seven years

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

That's a wrap, Zendesk. That's a wrap.

Long before I joined Zendesk, I'd been a fangirl. I fawned over the brand, adored the content, and deeply respected the product. Even as a non-customer, I was attracted to the simplicity and clarity. And the tone? Swoon. Finally, a brand that talked to customer support leaders like we were as modern, cutting-edge, and valuable as we know we are.

When a dear human first brought me the Zendesk role, I said no. I said no more than a few times. I was a customer support executive, not an editor! I ran contact centers and was good at it. I didn't develop content... full-time. My journalism degree was dusty. I didn't emcee for a living. I wasn't a marketing professional. I certainly wasn't into event marketing. But she knew. And once I listened, I knew. This was my path.

Zendesk opened up a zillion opportunities for me. I was pushed out of my comfort zone, yanked past my expertise, and was often bounced around and tossed around because I would always figure it out. I helped build a brand, a magazine, an event series, and an editorial direction. I built an events team when there wasn't one.

Zendesk opened up the zillion opportunities I wanted. I hosted events, I was on stage, I traveled the world, I interviewed brilliant people, I built beautiful things, I wrote smart words. And each and every day I talked to customer experience leaders that made me so proud of the work that we do.

Zendesk opened up a zillion opportunities to work with a glorious cascade of characters. I created, traveled, cried, and laughed alongside some of the most talented and lovely humans. Every day I was taught something and I trust I gave something back in return. I am honored and forever in gratitude.

Zendesk opened up a zillion opportunities for me. Until it didn't. And that was heartbreaking. While I didn't love it all, I loved so damn much of it.

That's a wrap, my loves. That's a wrap.

See you from the stage.

xoxo

Sarah
